Successfully negotiated google docs. Particularly impressed with the 'forms' function which I will certainly use in the future. Atomic learning seemed very clumsy; youtube was much more expedient. The google docs functions seemed weak compared to, say, the latest MS Office versions of Word and Excel but the fact that they are fluid, on-line documents is extremely useful.
I think a particularly good use of forms (and the mapping spreadsheet) would be for pre-testing. Students would be able to be more relaxed with their answers at home with their email.
Hi James,
ReplyDeleteI agree that Google forms will be a VERY useful tool for use in the classroom and for behind-the-scenes assessment/grading/marking etc.
I think it would be crazy if Microsoft did not develop their own form of 'cloud' computing with the full functionality of the office suite.
I did try to get one of my classes to jump-in and try create a collaborative Google document (yr 12 study/summary document) - but that experience led me to believe that the students also need some Web 2.0 training. They may be digital natives and know how to access the online tools but they are not necessarily expert users who know how to best USE the tools to their full capabilities.
Well, hope you enjoy the rest of the Web 2.0 course.
Tristan
MS cloud has been here for a while. "Live" has word, excel, powerpoint & onenote & 20GB storage on the net. They aren't "fully functioning" otherwise they wouldn't make their billions selling the real office.
ReplyDeleteWe may yet to get to see them closehand depending on what happens to email when myinternet goes at the end of the year.
Great work.
